Leika Ikuma is a Orange County based artist with a focus in illustration. With technical training and traditional media skills, Leika started with a love for drawing and sketching, though exploring different techniques and mediums is a regular practice for her.
Growing up Japanese American was challenging for Leika at an early age. Being torn between her two halves, she didn’t know how to identify herself, being mixed. A higher appreciation for her culture came about in high school. As an adult, Leika has come to fully embrace her mother’s culture, and is thankful for the rigorous efforts she has put in to exposing her and her sister to their heritage and Japanese culture.
Leika’s work emulates the exposure and inspiration from the nostalgic memories of the Japanese countryside, food, and activities. She discovered digital applications during the pandemic, and it quickly became her preferred medium. Leika has always wanted to convey a sense of welcoming and positive energy through her work. With style being an ever-changing part of personal creation, Leika’s work is said to be recognizable throughout her illustration journey and continues to change as she grows into her work.
